Children and adolescents are not just little adults. Their brains are still very much growing, and their behaviors and perspectives are unique to their age and stage of development. Symptoms may present differently in young people than they do in adults. Communication is different with young people, and their interests and priorities do not always align with those of adults, making the understanding of child and adolescent development critical to successful outcomes. I have an easy rapport with children and teens (even those who may feel resistant to therapy at first) and I enjoy earning their respect and building trust and connection.
