Children and adolescents are not just little adults. Their brains are still very much forming, and their behaviors and perspectives are unique to their age and stage of development. Symptoms may present differently in young people than they do in adults. Communication occurs differently with young people, and their interests and priorities are different than those of most adults, making the understanding of child and adolescent development critical to successful outcomes. I have an easy rapport with children and teens (even those who may feel resistant to therapy at first) and I enjoy earning their respect and building trust and connection.
